A regional pizza chain wanted to boost social engagement on a tight budget. Instead of sticking to digital, we went offline with a bold twist. When someone followed the brand online, we followed them back, in real life. Using mascot characters and a few inside tips, we playfully “followed” fans in public, capturing quirky, shareable videos. We amplified the content through digital ads, in-store touchpoints, and a social giveaway. Engagement soared, and both online interactions and in-store visits jumped. The takeaway is clear: a smart, unexpected idea can stretch any budget and still deliver big results. The campaign appeared in the print edition of The New York Times, earned a spot among Entrepreneur Magazine’s “Top 3 Marketing Masterworks,” and was long cited by Twitter as a benchmark for effective platform use.
